Fire Door

Fire Doors, Frames & Hardware

Door Requirements:
All manufacturers have size limitations for fire doors and frames depending upon what products have been tested. Not all doors and frames produced by a manufacturer are fire doors. Each type, size, and gage of door must be physically tested.

Frame Requirements:
Fire door frames have different characteristics than non-labeled frames. In the case of a UL (Underwriters Laboratories, Inc) or WH (Warnock Hersey) frame, the frame must have a specific type of anchor welded to the frame. It must also have a closer reinforcement in the head of the frame to accept a since all fire doors must be self-closing.

Fire Door Hardware:
Only labeled hardware shall be placed on the fire door and frame. Non-labeled hardware, which possibly could fail during a fire, defeats the purpose of labeling the door and frame.

Hinges:
All hinges and screws must be made of steel

Locks:
All single doors and active leaf pairs shall be provided with reinforcements & cutouts for locks or latches.

Fire Exit Hardware:
Rim panic, external vertical rods, internal vertical rods, 2-piont locking system, & 3-piont locking system.

Magnetic Holder:
Designed to allow fire doors to be held open under normal conditions, but to automatically close under their own spring return mechanism when a fire or smoke alarm system is activated.
