Fire Rated Door Inspection & Installation
All Fire Rated Doors are required by law to be inspected annually & be in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
Fire Doors Purpose:
A fire door, frame & hardware must prevent the spread of flame though the opening for a designated period of time (3 hour, 1 ½ hour, ¾ hour or 20 min.)
To Be Certified:
Fire doors, frames, and hardware must be tested for flame retardation. These tests can be performed by various testing organizations. The most widely recognized testing agencies are Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc. (UL) & Warnock-Hersey (WH).
Fire Door Hardware:
It is important that only UL labeled finished hardware be placed on the fire door and frame. Non-labeled hardware, which possibly could fail during a fire, defeats the purpose of labeling the door and frame.
Label Classification:
The determination of type of certification the door and frame must bear (UL or WH) is made by the authorities having jurisdiction at the job location, i.e. building inspector, etc.
